What is Whole Life Carbon?
Now that the Earth Day snowstorm is over – lets look at this grass-roots concept that all carbon people constantly reference. Measurement is the bread and butter of good carbon management and measuring all the stuff that happens in your project’s whole lifetime is key to appreciating the true impact it makes. 1️⃣ The first image represents Whole Life Carbon according to RICS and defines some of the key terms people use when they refer to which “stuff” they are concerned with. But to keep it simples – I’ve made 2️⃣ the second image, which explains this in common terms with some example approaches to attack the carbon in each section. Formula 1’s Pathway to Sustainability Relies Heavily on Better Fuels
At the recent Formula 1 engine summit in Bahrain, major stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to the 2026 engine regulations – 1.6-litre V6 turbo hybrid engines, split 50/50 between electric power and the combustion of sustainable fuels, halving the fuel requirement per race. The hybrid arrangement with sustainable fuels are a key part of F1’s sustainability strategy and a huge draw-in factor for manufacturers such as Audi and Mercedes. 🏎️ What is F1’s Net Zero Target? Net-Zero Carbon by 2030 as part of a wider Sustainability Strategy. Targets include improvements in operating efficiencies, uptake of renewable energy and a deliberate restructure of fuel regulations for a broad exploration of sustainable fuels. 🏎️ What are F1’s Carbon Hotspots? Travel and logistics regarding [...]
What is Carbon and Why is It Such a Hot Topic?
It’s the most talked about greenhouse gas (#GHG) and the basis of life on earth. But what are we talking about when we talk about carbon in the scope of #climate #change? At room temperature, Carbon is an element that exists commonly as diamond, graphite, or graphene in its solid form. As a gas, it most commonly exists as CO2. For the #sustainability context, Carbon usually refers to Carbon Dioxide (CO2) – a gas that comes from both natural (animals breathing, volcanoes) and unnatural sources (primarily the burning of fossil fuels). These gases are regulated by the carbon cycle, where the earth #sequesters (captures) carbon through methods such as photosynthesis in plants and absorption by oceans. When #CO2 enters [...]
